World Autism Awareness Day 2012
World Autism Awareness Day is April 2nd, part of April’s Autism Awareness Month — an official declaration by the United Nations in 2007. This day encourages individuals across the globe to take measures to raise awareness about the prevalence and rate of autism in our society as well as encourages early diagnosis and early intervention. We wanted to thank all the developers working to help raise awareness and have listed some of our favourite apps in different areas to support individuals with autism spectrum disorders.
Apps and software for students with language-based learning disabilities
We recently presented with Kimberly Murphy (@kimberlyslp, a speech and language pathologist) at the Québec Provincial Association of Teachers conference. Our presentation focused on the planning and implementation of new assistive technologies for students with language-based learning disabilities. We created a handout that lists all the apps for language-based learning disabilities in two categories, apps for remediation and apps for language support.
Apps for Autism – Proloquo2Go featured on CBS News 60 Minutes
Proloquo2Go is one of the most popular augmentative and alternative communication apps for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. CBS’s 60 Minutes featured the impact of this app on communication for individuals with autism and their families. We embedded the video in the post for easy viewing.
